So, Was It Just "Luck" Or Did "Jehovah" Intervene At Times For You?
by minimus ini know witnesses believe that miracles were done away with other "gifts" after the apostles died but every so often they suggest god produced a miracle.. did you believe that jehovah god saved you out of a bad situation?
did you accept that god's angel help you out?.

Sex before marriage would eliminate a lot of unhappy marriages in the Borg...
by sinis insensible, safe sex, in my opinion, should be engaged in.
because, as you get older and are ready to settle down, you will look at your potential sole mate, not for sexual reasons, but for what they have to offer mentally and if they are compatible.
when religion restricts this, and yuo must marry to have sex, i believe that you doom a marriage at the outset, because these young folks marry out of lust, only to have the rose colored blinders pulled off later, and regret the entire arrangement... .

Sadly, what you just said is all too true.
Marriage is an institution that was put in place primarily to protect children. However, a thing called the Oral Contraceptive (introduced over 50 years ago) kind of changed things somewhat!
Stubbornly still trying to enforce laws in the 21st Century that were developed many millenia ago by some nomadic desert chieftans is a good recipe for disaster. So much for true happiness being possible only if you "do things God's way."

The LDS missionaries actually go out of there way to speak to people. More than a few times, I have had them approach me while walking along the street.
The dubs, by contrast, will typically walk right past you, while heading for the front door of the house that you have just left, and where there is now nobody at home. Talk about being more interested in going where the people aren't!
Whatever their faults, the Mormons at least attempt to give a more effective witness to the community.
Their religion, too, is very much family oriented - whereas that of the JWs is in no way family friendly.
If I had to make a choice, it would be the LDS (although still one hell of a choice to have to make!)

Jones was yet another person who reckoned he was The Messiah;
- another reason why all similarly deluded nut jobs are very far from being "harmless", as has been claimed by some on this discussion board.

TD,
I agree with you 100%.
Having known of Ray Comfort for well over 30 years (from the days when he used to hold forth in Christchurch, New Zealand), I would not describe him as having too much in the way of intellectual skills.
There is such a thing as always remembering to "Engage Brain before putting Mouth into Gear", and - as you pointed out - Ray Comfort is not the only religionist to slip up with that one.

12-year-old thread: JWS/WTS REACHES CRITICAL MASS - A NON-EVENT!
by steve2 ina few days ago, there was renewed interest in a 12-year-old thread which, among other points, argued the watchtower's days were numbered.
several current posters expressed the view that the wts has not been impacted by any "critical mass" and that it speaks to the immunity of the watchtower to any such "critical mass" event.
i thought the topic warranted a renewal for wider consideration - with the "benefit" of "12-years" hindsight - so have duplicated one of my responses: .

Steve,
What you have said sounds right on the money.
Furthermore, the WTS has long recognised this itself - that in fact its greatest enemy is apathy. Thirty years ago, I can recall very stern warnings being issued by the Circuit Overseer on that very subject.
If the day does indeed come when the "organisation" is no more, it will have been brought about by the ordinary rather than the spectacular.

How long did you keep rooting for Walter White?
by slimboyfat inisn't this guy like the greatest anti-hero of all time?.
as the series wears on it is getting more and more difficult to sympathise with the guy.
but i must admit i stuck with him pretty far.

I have to say this before I completely laugh my head off !
- down in this part of the world, the term "rooting" has an entirely different meaning to what it evidently has in North America.
